Where can you buy a tested used Kia engine for sale?

Car Part Headquarters supplies tested used and remanufactured Kia engines for cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans, shipped free to a commercial address across the lower 48 and backed by a 12-month parts-replacement warranty. Tell us your Kia’s year, model, and engine, and a specialist confirms the exact fitment before you pay.

Buying a used Kia engine

Kia shares its core engine families with Hyundai, which means it shares the same well-documented Theta II history and the same warranty extension. Check the recall before you buy.

Theta II 2.4L GDI / 2.0L Turbo2011-2019

The same rod-bearing failure documented across Optima, Sorento and Sportage of this period, caused by manufacturing debris in the crankshaft oil passages. Affected vehicles received a powertrain warranty extension to 10 years or 120,000 miles.

Gamma 1.6L GDI

Carbon buildup and, on some ranges, timing chain noise are the recurring complaints rather than bottom-end failure.

Before you order

Run the VIN through the NHTSA recall lookup first. A covered Theta II may be repaired under the extension, and if it is not covered we will confirm the correct interchange for a replacement.

How Kia engines are identified by VIN

Kia engines of the same displacement can differ by VIN code, emissions package, and build - which changes the correct part. Here is the real interchange breakdown for a 2015 Kia Sorento, the kind of detail a specialist confirms from your VIN before anything ships:

Engine / applicationInterchange #

FAQ

Used Kia engines & transmissions

How much does a used Kia engine cost?

Price tracks the engine family more than the model year, and on Kia that usually means which of the Theta II 2.4L GDI / 2.0L Turbo and Gamma 1.6L GDI you need. Displacement alone does not settle it, because the same badge can cover variants that differ in cost and availability. Tell us the year, model and VIN and you get a firm quote on the engine your vehicle actually takes, with availability confirmed before you pay.

Which Kia engines do you carry?

We regularly source Kia engines across the lineup, including the 3.8L V6, 3.5L V6, 3.3L V6, 2.9L I4 Turbo Diesel, 2.7L V6, 2.5L V6. If you don't see your exact engine, tell us the year, model, and VIN and a specialist confirms the right one before you pay.

Do you sell used Kia transmissions too?

Yes. Alongside used and remanufactured Kia engines, we source manual, automatic, and CVT Kia transmissions matched to your vehicle, backed by the same 12-month parts-replacement warranty.

Will the engine fit my exact Kia?

Fitment is confirmed before you pay. Run the VIN through the NHTSA recall lookup first. A covered Theta II may be repaired under the extension, and if it is not covered we will confirm the correct interchange for a replacement. Give us the year, model and 17-digit VIN and a specialist matches the correct engine to your exact application.

Are your used engines and transmissions tested?

Yes. Every used engine and transmission is compression- and oil-pressure tested and put through a rigorous inspection process by automotive experts before they ship.

What warranty comes with a part?

Every engine and transmission includes a 12-month parts-replacement warranty, plus lifetime support from ASE-certified experts. Approved claims are handled by replacement or store credit - we do not issue cash refunds. Labor is not covered on the standard warranty. You can upgrade to 3-year parts and labor coverage for $499 at the time of purchase. Full warranty details are provided with your order.

Can I get a longer warranty that covers labor?

Yes. The standard coverage is 12 months on parts. For $499 you can upgrade to a 3-year warranty that covers both parts and labor, purchased at the time of your order. Ask your specialist to add it when you confirm your part.
