Buying a used Chrysler engine

Chrysler requests centre on the Pentastar V6 and the Tigershark four-cylinder. Both are high-volume engines where production year decides what you are buying.

3.6L Pentastar V62011-2013 (affected range)

Left-bank cylinder head failure is the documented issue, affecting cylinders 2, 4 and 6. Chrysler corrected it with a revised head during 2013 production, and the updated castings carry different part numbers, so two engines of the same model year are not necessarily the same part. Rocker arm and lifter complaints appear more broadly across the range.

2.4L Tigershark I4

Oil consumption is the dominant owner complaint on this family and has been the subject of litigation. It is the reason many of these engines are replaced rather than repaired, so a donor with documented consumption history is worth paying for.

Before you order

On the Pentastar, the question is not the model year, it is which head casting the donor carries. A 2013 engine can be either side of the revision. We confirm it against the interchange before anything ships.

FAQ

Used Chrysler engines & transmissions

How much does a used Chrysler engine cost?

Price tracks the engine family more than the model year, and on Chrysler that usually means which of the 3.6L Pentastar V6 and 2.4L Tigershark I4 you need. Displacement alone does not settle it, because the same badge can cover variants that differ in cost and availability. Tell us the year, model and VIN and you get a firm quote on the engine your vehicle actually takes, with availability confirmed before you pay.

Which Chrysler engines do you carry?

We regularly source Chrysler engines across the lineup, including the 6.4L V8, 5.3L I8, 3.8L V6, 3.6L V6, 3.5L V6, 3.3L V6. If you don't see your exact engine, tell us the year, model, and VIN and a specialist confirms the right one before you pay.

Do you sell used Chrysler transmissions too?

Yes. Alongside used and remanufactured Chrysler engines, we source manual, automatic, and CVT Chrysler transmissions matched to your vehicle, backed by the same 12-month parts-replacement warranty.

Will the engine fit my exact Chrysler?

Fitment is confirmed before you pay. On the Pentastar, the question is not the model year, it is which head casting the donor carries. A 2013 engine can be either side of the revision. We confirm it against the interchange before anything ships. Give us the year, model and 17-digit VIN and a specialist matches the correct engine to your exact application.

Are your used engines and transmissions tested?

Yes. Every used engine and transmission is compression- and oil-pressure tested and put through a rigorous inspection process by automotive experts before they ship.

What warranty comes with a part?

Every engine and transmission includes a 12-month parts-replacement warranty, plus lifetime support from ASE-certified experts. Approved claims are handled by replacement or store credit - we do not issue cash refunds. Labor is not covered on the standard warranty. You can upgrade to 3-year parts and labor coverage for $499 at the time of purchase. Full warranty details are provided with your order.

Can I get a longer warranty that covers labor?

Yes. The standard coverage is 12 months on parts. For $499 you can upgrade to a 3-year warranty that covers both parts and labor, purchased at the time of your order. Ask your specialist to add it when you confirm your part.
